Methodology: Countries Whose Military Use Kalashnikov Rifles & Variants Dataset (1947-present)

There are over 130 countries whose militaries have adopted Kalashnikov or Kalashnikov variants over the past seventy years. Information on national military Kalashnikov usage come primarily from the Small Arms Survey (Oslo, Norway), Jane’s Directory of Military Small Arms Ammunition, Military Small Arms of the 20th Century Seventh Edition by Ian Hogg, and Tools of Modern Terror: How the AK-47 and AR-15 Evolved Into Rifles of Choice for Mass Shooting by C.J. Chivers (New York Times, 2016). Data collected included country of military usage and type of Kalashnikovs used.
